The Mets pitching staff is making things look easy right now. Jacob deGrom is leading the way as he continues putting up historic numbers, now with a just ridiculous 0.62 ERA. Marcus Stroman is following him in the rotation with an impressive season, pitching another gem on Sunday. The Mets split a series with one of the better teams in baseball and will enjoy their off day still with a cozy lead in the NL East.

To talk about a strong weekend from the Mets and look ahead, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me.

Amazin’ But True Podcast with Jake & Figgie:

  • SERIES SPLIT: With all the Mets on the IL, you will gladly take the split. Pitching was phenomenal. Stroman was great Sunday. DeGrom was his brilliant self. Stroman can’t have that nonchalant toss to himself and low throw happen. Made up for it with the RBI double. DeGrom is on a historic level right now. Can Luis Rojas let deGrom go deeper into games?
  • COMPETITIVE NATURE: Intense ping pong match Saturday. Figgie is in a weekly bowling league. He once bowled a 297. It’s then on to the Mets returning home to a new capacity of 33,000-plus fans next weekend. We get into Saturday home game start times and whether 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. is more ideal.

Figgie’s Fable: Figgie tells the story of Sister Karen from his days growing up in Brooklyn to seeing her again at Shea Stadium when he was on the Mets.

Nelson Figueroa Spanish Academy: Figgie teaches me how to say “crab” and “first place” in Spanish.
