Could Naomi Osaka pass on Wimbledon after pulling out of the French Open due to mental health reasons?
It seems possible after she opted against playing in next week’s WTA 500 grass-court Wimbledon tune-up in Berlin.
“We have received notification Naomi Osaka cannot start in Berlin. After consulting her management, she will take a break,” Berlin event organizers said in a statement.
The 23-year-old Osaka, the second-ranked player in the world, has not publicly said when she will play next. After Wimbledon, which begins June 28, are the Tokyo Olympics next month in her home country of Japan.
On Saturday, Osaka thanked her fans for their support following her withdrawal from the French Open after her refusal to take part in press conferences.
